Aulia Novemy Dhita, Arma Mita

Abstract

Antara News wrote that based on report by Indonesian Forum for the Environment (Walhi), in 2018 there were 63 cases of pollution of the Musi River in Palembang and other watersheds. The pollution is related to environmental awareness. One of major efforts that can be made to build environmental awareness is through environmental-based learning. This learning aims to prepare students to have ecological competence. Historically, The Musi River has had an important role about Palembang history. The problem of this research is how to design local history learning based on ecopedagogy and Musi River in senior high school. Furthermore, this research aims to design ecopedagogy based on local history learning through Musi River. The method used is descriptive qualitative. The results showed that ecopedagogy is very appropriate to be applied in learning local history in senior high school. This is related to the Palembang geography which is dominated by rivers. Local history learning is designed using an ecopedagogical approach and Musi River both historically and connecting it with history subjects in senior high school curriculum. Some of the historical subjects that are in accordance with whit this approach are Human life in the pre-literate period, Development in the Colonial period and The Sultanate of Palembang.
